 Homegrown Series

Homegrown is a must-see programme for all parents, no matter how old their children are. The thirty episodes of this magazine series made over three years covers the challenges faced for parenting new babies through to teenagers.

Hosted by Jude Dobson, who's well qualified for the role being a mum of three and TV presenter of  15 years experience, the show provides a well-informed and revealing insight into issues and situations that reflect our society today.

In New Zealand, 23% NZ population are aged under 15 and one third of households have children under the age of 15, so producers Jude Dobson and Jan McIntosh believe that local television programming which offers relevant information to Kiwi parents is absolutely essential. However the stories are international in appeal - parents the world over want to know about teenage depression and how to avoid it or deal with it if it happens. They also want to know about age related infertility - a growing concern amongst women leaving child bearing till later...or what it is that makes a 'tweenager' tick (a 'tween' being 9-12 years olds - between childhood teenage years).  Other issues covered in this series include: appropriate non-physical discipline for preschoolers and young children, making the money go round when there isn't a lot, the importance of affirming men in our boys' lives, the juggling act of working and mothering, the expectations we put on new mothers and the lack of support for them, postnatal depression, and bullying to mention a few....plus a variety of health and education stories from skin infections and dental care through to helping children with emerging literacy and numeracy and encouraging critical thinking skills. We also meet a different sort of family every episode -sole parents - dads and mums, a family of seven who home school, same sex parents, grandparents who have ended up as custodial parents, plus many nationally and internationally famous families as well, from the worlds of fashion, music, sport and television.

Every episode has a food section, often with well known chef Annabelle White who shares easy recipes and offers tips on some great food ideas for families - from snacks and lunchbox ideas to birthday party food and family dinners.

We review the best books, websites and CD roms for children, plus offer some inexpensive fun things to make and do with your youngsters. This series is timeless and is available for international sale.
