Nought to Five Series Two

Nought to Five Series Two continues with an insiders' guide to parenting the under-fives, this time covering pregnancy and birth, through the ages and stages to starting school at 5 years old. The ten episodes cover the common issues faced by parents in the preschool years, and while giving guidance on how to navigate the challenges, our experts give vital information about how to give a child the best start in life. The first years last forever- a baby’s brain is only 20% connected at birth, the other 80% happens in the first three years of life. The quality of a child’s experiences and relationships in that period affects those brain connections. The first three year last forever, so it’ s immensely important to educate yourself about how to make the first years really count!

The massive amount of feedback from grateful parents after Series One eager for good quality, well researched information about their child’s development and how to negotiate their way through new territory, meant that a second series was always on the way.

Each episode once again features two families sharing their stories about everyday life. They talk to a family counsellors who have experience and advice not only from being a parent themselves, but also through their line of work.
In each episode Gill Connell, a primary school teacher, author and advisor on Active Movement, discusses the all-important link between movement and learning.  She shows the families activities, which will grow their children's brains so that they can attain their genetic potential, and thus also avoid potential learning difficulties later on.

Once again the series focuses on developmental ages and stages.  If parents know what to expect from their children and why certain behaviour occurs, they can celebrate and enhance the stages in their children's lives rather than being frustrated and exhausted by it. 90% of calls to parent help lines are due to parents having unrealistic expectations of their child’s developmental age.

A cornerstone of this series is respect for the child - they are on the journey with us - parenting is not something we do to them as such, we do it with them, for mutual benefit, so this series is about creating a positive, harmonious journey for both parent and child.
